Presentation

Dr. Eugenio Oñate is a Civil Engineer. His research has focused on the development of numerical methods for analysis and design of structures, fluid dynamics and industrial manufacturing processes. His scientific contributions and software derived from his research activity are of particular relevance to the solution of multidisciplinary problems in the field of civil, industrial, aerospace, marine and naval engineering, among others. He has published 370 articles in JCR journals. He has 11.646 citations and an h-index of 53 (Scopus). He is author of 3 text books and editor of 59 books on different topics of computational mechanics. He is editor of the JCR journals "Archives of Computational Methods in Engineering" (since 1994, Springer), “Computational Particle Mechanics” (since 2014, Springer) and "Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería" (since 1985, Scipedia). He has supervised 63 PhDs (completed). Since 1987, he has been the founder and Director of CIMNE. He was a founder and first president of the Spanish Society of Numerical Methods in Engineering (1989–2004), founder and president of the European Community for Computational Mechanics in Applied Sciences (2000–2004) and president of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (2002-2010). He has received numerous awards at international level. In 2019-2022, he will be the Scientific Director of the research programme of CIMNE in the context of the Severo Ochoa Center of Excelence awarded to CIMNE for this period. He has promoted the creation of fourteen technology-based companies in Spain.
